Adoptions

IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING AN ADOPTION THROUGH OUR RESCUE, PLEASE READ THIS VERY CAREFULLY!!

Adopting a Friend

Before filling out an application, ask yourself if you are truly willing to make a lifetime commitment to a dog. These dogs have often been rescued from the brink of death and are too special to be put through the emotional roller coaster of going to homes just for a “test drive.” They’ve been pushed around enough already. If you aren’t willing to make such a commitment, please don’t submit an application!

A rescue dog can take many weeks or even months to totally settle into a new home. Are you patient enough to make this work? Think it through. We are looking for TRUE dog lovers who want to rescue a dog for the right reasons. Please search your soul before filling out an application.

When selecting a dog, be honest with us and with yourself about what you can deal with. Don’t think that because you fall in love with a picture, you can force that dog to fit into your family. If a dog looks like a dog you used to have, it doesn’t mean this one is going to act at all like that dog. All of our dogs are in foster situations, and we and the foster parents represent them as honestly as we can in the foster situation! HOWEVER, a dog who may have been/become house trained in foster can occasionally develop serious house training issues in the new situation. Or, a dog who has not chased the foster cats may decide that new cats would be fun to chase and terrorize. You MUST be willing to work through these situations, should they arise. If you are not, DO NOT APPLY to adopt one of our dogs! We ourselves are not trainers. Though we can often recommend trainers in your area, after the adoption, we expect YOU to take responsibility for giving your new Canine Companion the life he/she deserves ~ it is a forever commitment!

Our Adoption Procedure

If you are considering an adoption through our rescue, please read this carefully:

We are not a Shelter and we have no facility of any type in New Hampshire!

An important note regarding children: Although we are happy to consider adoptions to families with children, we, regretfully, now rarely adopt to families with multiple youngsters. FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN MUST HAVE A FENCED-IN YARD.

Please Note: Due to extremely limited volunteer staff, at the present time, we are ONLY considering applicants within NH, the areas of MA surrounding Boston, southern Maine north ONLY to Portland, and a few areas of VT.
