Adoption Application
BEFORE COMPLETING THE APPLICATION, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
If the statements below are agreeable with you, Canine Guardians for Life will be happy to work with you to find a wonderful canine companion. Our board of directors has set strict policies to ensure that the dogs we place find permanent homes. If these policies are not acceptable to you, we understand if you choose not to complete our application.
- An important note regarding children: Although we are happy to consider adoptions to families with children, we, regretfully, now rarely adopt to families with multiple children, especially if they are youngsters.
- Except for perhaps a brief, specific question, most questions about our website dogs should wait until you receive a phone call from us notifying you of the results of application review. We place all available information about our dogs on the website. Once your application has been reviewed, we will contact you for the next step – the home visit, during which we will be happy to discuss and answer your questions. We will then also make every effort to provide you with any new information from our foster families…and at this point we encourage communication between the applicants and the fosters.
- The home visit is an essential part of our application process. We are looking for a safe and secure environment for our dogs. We cannot approve any adoption without a home visit.
- Please note that we are unable to consider “third party” applications and adoptions, unless the adopter is involved in the process. The prospective adopter needs to be the party completing the application, though we understand there are circumstances when an adopter is receiving help finding the right pet.
- All of our dogs require a fenced-in yard OR an absolute and permanent commitment to leash-walking. We will not approve the adoption of any dog who will be permitted to run free, even under supervision. Most of our dogs arrived at a kill shelter because they were not fenced or leashed, and we are extremely serious about preventing this from reoccurring. If you cannot commit to this, please do not apply for one of our dogs.
- Also, if a dog is listed as absolutely requiring a fenced-in yard, please understand that we will NOT consider anything other than a fenced-in yard for that particular dog. In addition, please understand we will not approve of invisible or electric fences for our dogs.
- Due to our small staff and a limited ability to fulfill our home visit requirement, we only consider adoption applications from NH, areas of Maine north only to Portland, the MA areas surrounding Boston, and a few areas in VT. Please do not complete the application if you live outside the areas mentioned.
If the above is acceptable to you, please continue by completing the attached application.
Please be patient with our adoption process. We are enthusiastic about placing our many wonderful dogs and we will do our best to move the process along as quickly as possible. Our adoptees are looking for a lifetime companion. We hope you will give us the needed time to help you and our dogs find each other.
We look forward to receiving your application and helping you to find a loving canine companion.

Adoption Application
HOMECHECK: Please note that we DO NOT adopt out any dog(s) without a home visit by a representative of Canine Guardians for Life. Conducting a home visit allows us to spend time with the prospective adopters and to see where the dog will be eating, sleeping and spending most of his/her time.
OUR ADOPTION FEE: $300 (somewhat less for Senior dogs) and covers the cost of shots, spay/neuter and all other vetting, as well as transport from foster care to NH. In addition, please be well aware that having a canine companion will require other expenses.
PLEASE NOTE: We DO NOT adopt out puppies or young dogs to person(s) who may be out of the home for more than four hours a day at a time. Although we realize that people work, please do not apply for one of our dogs if you are unable to guarantee that the dog will be walked at some point midday or taken to doggy daycare while you are at work.
